Otterton, Budleigh Salterton, Devon

What a pretty little place this is, tucked away in the lanes between the sea and the Otter Valley in East Devon. There are old thatched cottages, handsome red brick houses, a village green and a good pub, called The Kings Arms. The biggest attraction is Otterton Mill standing on the banks of the River Otter; it’s one of the oldest working water mills in the country and you can go there to watch the flour being ground then take yourselves off for a browse around the art gallery and gift shop before you settle at table in the restaurant for a bite to eat.

There are several good walks around Otterton, along the river and over the fields to Ladram Bay where the famous red sandstone stacks stand on sentry off the shore. Plan a day’s exploring when you’re on holiday in Devon – a visit to Otterton, a stroll and then head to the beach at Budleigh Salterton just down the road, or to Sidmouth a little further along the coast.
