Budleigh Salterton, Devon
Budleigh Salterton is a quiet town on the East Devon coast, between Sidmouth and Exmouth. You can’t help thinking there’s a certain air of yesteryear about the place because it’s not been spoilt by the hand of commercialism in the way that a lot of coastal towns have. So if you like that kind of thing, a slower pace, a peaceful ambience, go see.
The main street at Budleigh Salterton is lined with independent shops, cafés and restaurants; it rolls gently down to the pebbly beach, backed with towering red sandstone cliffs and the rolling green hills of Devon. Go and play by the sea, stroll around the streets, maybe pop in the thatched museum to see the bygones, and then treat yourself to tea and cake at Tea and Tittle Tattle.
Nearby are Otterton Mill, World of Country Life and Bicton Park Botannical Gardens so plan it well, make day of it.
