Colyford, Devon

Colyford is quite a pretty village that you pass through on the main road along the coast from Seaton in Devon. You might even end up here because you’ve walked along the river from Colyton, or through Seaton Wetlands, or you might stop off to pop in the excellent butchers shop or for lunch at The Wheelwright Inn or The White Hart next to the tram line.

Colyford was formerly an Ancient Borough, and like most of those it has its traditions. The biggest is the increasingly famous Colyford Goose Fayre, held at Michaelmas each year; pretty much the whole village comes out dressed in medieval garb and join a procession along the main road to the field where the fayre is held. Needless to say there is much of ye olde merry making and the crowds seem to get bigger each year as visitors come from near and far to be a part of it.
