Seaton Tramway, Seaton, Devon

It’s not often these days that you get the chance to have a ride on a good old-fashioned tram, so when you’re out and about on the Jurassic Coast, go to Seaton Tramway, climb on board and sit back for a leisurely ride through the wetlands along the Axe estuary to Colyton. Get off and go for cream tea at the Tramstop Café, have a browse in The Vintage Shed and an amble along the river.

In Seaton you can walk along the beach to the Hideaway Café or venture up over the cliffs on the South West Coast Path to Beer. Catch one of the regular events that Seaton Tramway hold; on Fathers Day Dad’s ride for free, in the summer there’s a Story Tram for children, in late November there’s a Polar Express and at certain times of the year they do Bird Watching Tram rides – the estuary is a haven for migratory and resident birds, so make sure you’ve got your binoculars.

If the weather is good sit up on the open deck and remember to wave to the cars waiting as you go over the crossing at Colyford. Trams usually run throughout the day from 10.00am-5.00pm in the summer season, but at other times of the year it varies so best to check the website before you go.
