Uffculme, Cullompton, Devon

Uffculme is a quiet village with a big sense of community in the Blackdown Hills AONB. What is there to do here? Well, as you can with most villages – have a stroll about and take in the general ambience and the old buildings; there are a few shops where you can pick up any essentials you might need, and there’s a pub – in fact, the only pub left in the village now, called The Ostler, all very traditional with a beer garden, pool table, juke box and big screen sports.

What most folk come to Uffculme for is to visit Coldharbour Mill, the working wool museum, and for an amble along the old railway line and the River Culm, and who can blame them – the scenery in this part of the world is beautiful. There are events held during the year in the village, like a regular Farmer’s Market, a Music and Real Ale Festival, and on the early May Bank Holiday weekend, Uffculme Show, a proper job country fair with crafts, trade stands, a dog show, classic cars, arena events, food and entertainment. If you’re staying at one of luxury holiday houses nearby then, pop along, the atmosphere is great, go and join in the fun.
