Coldharbour Mill, Uffculme, Devon

Go and have a look round Coldharbour Mill in Uffculme if you fancy seeing what's about in this little corner of the Blackdown Hills AONB when you're on your large group holidays in Devon. Coldharbour Mill is one of the oldest working woollen mills in the UK, and actually, it's quite a fascinating place. Back in the day fleeces were sent here from all over the world to be spun into yarn, textiles and cloth; these days they still produce worsted knitting yarn and if you take a factory tour you can see how it's done using the old machinery.

There's a small museum where you can discover more about the woollen trade that is such an immense part of England's history, but what's got to be the most fun is the dressing up box! Visit the World War II Bunker, stroll through the meadow and around the mill pond. If you fancy a little momento of your visit you'll find something in the shop, and if the belly rumbles start to take over, stop in the cafe for tea and cake. A lovely little slice of Devon life.
