The Wyndham Arms, Kentisbeare, Cullompton, Devon

What you’ll find at The Wyndham Arms at Kentisbeare is a traditional village pub that despite having origins in the 17th century, is now making great strides into the 21st century, which is what any pub has to do to survive these days. So they have live music, quiz nights, DJ nights and a big TV for sports events, they have a pool table and a skittle alley – it’s catering for everyone, locals and visitors alike and doing what they can to keep the community going.

Talking of which, the food – very much pub fare with all the favourites – steaks, burgers, cod and chips, scampi and chips, ham, egg and chips, lamb shank and mash. It’s all home cooked and wherever possible, what goes into it is sourced locally.

The thing is, it may not be fine dining and painted in heritage colours but this is a proper village pub in a Devon village and there’s nothing wrong with that. The service is friendly, the beer is good, families are welcome (they have a kids menu) and even more, out the back there’s a beer garden which is a nice place to sit when the sun is out to play.
