Porlock Weir, Somerset

There was a time when Porlock Weir was a busy seaport, though that's hard to believe these days when it's so peaceful and quiet. The lime washed cottages and old stone buildings have a backdrop of the steep wooded hills of Exmoor. Watch the boats come and go in the harbour, browse the few little shops, stop by for lunch at The Ship Inn after a stroll up through the cliffs to Culbone Church, or an amble along the beach. There really is a timeless charm about Porlock Weir, and once you've been here you'll want to come back again and again, just to see if it's still so enchanting; somehow it always is, despite the crowds in the summer and even when the weather's gloomy; it's still a lovely place to be.
