Hembury Fort, Payhembury, Honiton, Devon
If you go to Hembury Fort near Honiton in the springtime you’ll be astounded at the carpet of bluebells beneath the sun dappled canopy of the beach trees; it’s a wonderful sight to behold. Go in the autumn wrapped up nice and warm and kick your way through the fallen leaves before going back to your luxury large group holiday house for mugs of steaming hot chocolate in front of the wood-burner.
Hembury Fort is a great place for walks anytime of year, high up above the Otter Valley, the views are tremendous; no wonder it was used as a vantage point in Roman and Iron Age times. When it was excavated in the 1930’s several fascinating artefacts were found and are now on display in the RAM Museum in Exeter.
Go and explore the tracks and trails, enjoy the tranquility and the birdsong.
