Dunkeswell Airfield, Honiton, Devon

High up on the Blackdown Hills in Devon, Dunkeswell Airfield saw a lot of activity in World War II; you can have a look round the Heritage Centre where they have fascinating displays, artefacts and photographs that give you a good insight into what day to day life was like here back then when it served as a military base.

Nowadays you can book aircraft rides or treat yourself to a flight training session at Dunkeswell Airfield; the less faint hearted among you might even fancy an extreme experience like sky diving or wing walking. If you prefer to keep your feet on the ground, hang around and see what’s coming and going; they still get plenty of visits from old planes, with classics like Spitfires included. Best of all is to find a seat in The Aviator Coffee Bar & Restaurant, have a bite to eat and just enjoy being there.
