Clifton Arcade, Bristol, Somerset
Clifton Arcade is one of Bristol’s unique places. This small Victorian shopping arcade is right in the heart of elegant Clifton Village and has independent shops, galleries, salons and a cafe. The feel is one of timeless charm, of community, the kind of place where you want to slow down and amble around taking it all in.
Built in 1876-1878 Clifton Arcade was the precursor of the modern shopping mall. The architect had a grand dream with access for carriages and a pleasure ground fronting the arcade, but it didn’t take off and the arcade was for sale by 1879. Luckily it was rescued and restored to how it is today; go along and linger, browse the shops and treat yourself to something nice.
