Bicton Park Botanical Gardens, Budleigh Salterton, Devon

Bicton Park Botannical Gardens near Budleigh Salterton shoud be singled out for a visit when you're down this way staying at one of our luxury large group holiday houses. The reason is that the gardens are an absolute gem surrounded by the beautiful scenery of the Otter Valley in Devon, and as there's something for all ages there it makes for a most enjoyable day out.

Needless to say garden lovers will be in their element wandering around the Italian, American and Mediterranean style gardens; Grade I listed, 64 acres, 300 years of history, and in parts, nothing less than enchanting, with a charming little church, a Victorian fernery with a quirky shell house, and of course, there are the historic glass houses with Arid, Temperate and Tropical Zones; the Palm House is made from over 18,000 panes of glass!

The thing is, the kids love it here too because there's plenty to keep them amused; play peek-a-boo behind the trees in the arboretum, pootle through the woods on the miniature railway, have a game of mini golf, follow the nature trails, and if that's not enough, let them loose in the indoor or outdoor play area. Round off your trip with lunch in the restaurant or tea in the Orangery.

Open all year except Christmas Day and Boxing Day, from 10.00am.
