Ashill, Cullompton, Devon

Quiet and peaceful, Ashill lies on the outer edges of the Blackdown Hill AONB, tucked away in the winding lanes of Devon, a world away from the hustle and bustle of city life. Like all villages, it’s changed considerably over the years, in this case from a largely farming community to a more residential one, even with a small development of modern homes, and cows replaced by alpacas.

The village pub, The Ashill Inn, is good. It’s a proper traditional pub where they serve home cooked food and local beers and it’s well worth driving out there for lunch or dinner one night when you’re down this way on your group holidays in Devon.

Just a couple of miles away is Uffculme, where you can visit Coldharbour Mill.
