Wildwood Escot, Ottery St Mary, Devon

If you’re planning a good day out with the kids whilst you’re on your large group holiday in Devon, Wildwood Escot should be up there, high on your list because this place is full of things to do, and to boot, the setting, amidst woodland and countryside on a private estate, is gorgeous. There are animals to see including wolves, lynx, wildcat and arctic fox; there are otters and red squirrels too, though the latter can be elusive. Brave explorers will love the outdoor adventure play, the 40m Zip Line, the Tree Top Drop Slide and the Maze.

What Wildwood Escot has that you don’t see very often at these sort of places is a Saxon Village, a very authentic one at that so make sure you allow time to see it – there are costumes and crafts and it all gives you a good insight into what life was like in those times. You can even have a go at striking a Saxon penny or making a piece of jewellery.

No doubt the littl’uns will still have plenty of energy left so take them to the indoor soft play area for a lark about, or go for a stroll through the woodlands, then wind your way back to the Coach House Café for lunch or a lipsmackingly good slice of homemade cake.

Opening times vary throughout the year. No dogs
