Thelma Hulbert Gallery, Honiton, Devon

If you find yourself in Honiton and the streets are a little too busy for your liking, take five to go and look around the Thelma Hulbert Gallery; it’s a nice place to spend time admiring the latest art exhibitions, browsing the arts and crafts in the shop, and stopping for coffee in the café. As well as changing exhibitions of contemporary art, there’s also a permanent collection of Thelma Hulbert’s paintings – this was her home until she passed away on 1995. For those of you who haven’t heard of her, she was a very well respected artist who taught at Camden School for Girls; two of her works are held in the Tate Gallery.

Another thing you might like to know is that they have regular workshops and activities at the Thelma Hulbert Gallery, so you can take the kids along and they can get stuck in creating collages or paper flowers, etc. Most grown-ups end up helping and quite enjoying it….
