The Greyhound Inn, Staple Fitzpaine, Somerset

The Greyhound Inn is snuggled in a dip in the tiny village of Staple Fitzpaine as you go over the Blackdown Hills on the back roads to Taunton. What a place! The country character oozes from every corner; big old timbers, huge flagstones on the floor and several rambling rooms, interconnecting, leading through the pub.

They have a very simple ethos when it comes to food – pub food, done properly. So you’ll find all the classics and everyone’s favourites on the menu; Lambs Liver & Bacon, Honey & Mustard Glazed Ham, Fish & Chips, Beefburger, and for the veggies and vegans, Miso & Spicy Harissa Aubergine. Sunday roasts come with all the trimmings and seasonal local veg and be warned – if you want to go you should book because it goes down very well with locals and visitors alike.

When the sun is shining sit outside and enjoy a cold beer in the gravelled garden, when it’s cold stay in by the fire. Good friendly service, relaxed atmosphere.
