Periwinkle Cottage Tea Room, Selworthy, Exmoor, Somerset

At the heart of the Green at Selworthy, Periwinkle CottageTea Room is like something from an old picture postcard; warm yellow walls, a heavy thatched roof, little latticed windows and a tall chimney standing high above the ridge. This is Olde England, this is a place where the pace drops a gear or two and the hustle and bustle of the world is easily forgotten. From the garden the view is of gorgeous Exmoor countryside, rolling out across the heathery moors to Dunkery Beacon, the highest point in the National Park; it's the kind of view you never tire of.

Almost everything served in the tea room is baked on the premises using locally sourced ingredients that showcase the marvellous abundance of fresh produce to be found in these parts. Stop by for a cream tea, a slice of homemade cake (orange & almond, fruit cake, coffee & walnut, lemon drizzle, carrot) a toasted tea cake or something more substantial, like a beef and horseradish sandwich or a bowl of Thai spiced roasted butternut squash soup. Something to look forward to after a stroll from the village up through the woods to Selworthy Beacon.
