Al Farid Restaurant, Exeter, Devon
Give your tastebuds a truly tantalising treat by booking for lunch or dinner at Al Farid Restaurant, tucked away in the corner of Cathedral Yard in the heart of Exeter. The setting is an intriguing historic building known as Three Gables, which dates back to 1658 and was once used to house craftsmen who worked on the cathedral.
With a traditional Hookah/Sisha bar, this award winning Moroccan-Lebanese Mezze Bar and Restaurant promises an authentic Arabian dining experience. If that’s something you’re already familiar with you don’t need us to tell you how good it is; if it’s something you’ve never tried before, we have every suspicion you’ll be coming back for more. Feast on dishes from North Africa and the Middle East in wonderfully atmospheric surroundings with Turkish carpets, colourful Moroccan lanterns, polished brass carafes and tapestry wall hangings.
The food they serve here is full-on delicious; absolutely bursting with flavour to transport you on a magical journey to Arabia (forget you’re in the middle of Exeter for a moment) – think cardamom, cinnamon, rosewater; it’s divine. Mains include dishes like Lamb tagine, Dolmeh aubergine, and Mixed Shish platter, and there’s an extensive meze menu that includes Falafel, Tzatziki, Hummus Kawarma, Halloumi Mishwi, Calamari, Moroccan fish cakes and Mint and feta cheese Borek. Forget the diet, you must have a pudding here because you won’t often get the chance to try the likes of proper Baklava and Mahalabia.
Drinks are equally authentic, with a choice of Moroccan cocktails, beers, liquers, teas and coffees, and you can even round off your evening with a smoke – freshly flavoured tobaccos on an authentic hookah pipe, in true Middle Eastern style. Excellent friendly service, deals for groups of 6 or more.
