There are superb walks and cycling routes on both the Blackdown Hills and nearby Quantock Hills, for those who like to get out and active. Exmoor and Dartmoor are nearby, offering rugged terrain and plenty of wildlife.
We are very fortunate to have many great pubs and restaurants on our doorstep too. The Culm Valley Inn, which is only a mile and a half away from Wayside House, does superb food, as does The Holt at Honiton, a child-friendly restaurant and bar. Strand Stores is the award winning local village shop, deli and café. We can highly recommend their scotch eggs and cloud cake! There are several CAMRA pubs (Campaign for Real Ale) in the area too, like the Ashill Inn, The Catherine Wheel, The George Inn, The Ostler Inn, the Wyndham Arms and the Culm Valley Inn.
Multi-award winning Quad World is only 10 miles away and is a great day out for kids and adults alike. Exmouth is less than an hour’s drive away and offers sandy beaches, a diverse selection of shops, places to eat and things to do like wind surfing, kite surfing, cycling and walking. The historic city of Exeter is also less than an hour away. As well as having great shopping, you can visit the cathedral, take a guided tour of the city’s underground passages, or head to Exeter Quay for a relaxing boat ride.
We are surrounded by beautiful countryside, historic places like Dunster Castle and Hestercombe Gardens, local farm shops, museums, outdoor activities, golf, fishing, shooting, places to take the kids and fantastic eateries. Whatever your age and whatever your interests, there will be plenty for you to do.
