You don’t have to be in London to experience fabulous dining.  Devon and Somerset have some of the most wonderful restaurants to offer.  Here are just a few of our favourites.

Augustus - Taunton TA1 1JR
This is a relaxed and informal bistro run by an experienced chef, featuring hearty, unfussy dishes which mix French, British and some Asian influences.  There is also a lovely roof terrace so you can eat outside.

The Pig at Combe - Gittisham, Honiton EX14 3AD
The Pig at Combe have a vegetable garden, a herb garden and an infusion garden.  The menu includes fresh fish, the best Devonshire cheese and locally reared meat.  What cannot be grown in The Pig’s kitchen garden will be sourced within a 25 mile radius.

The Hartnoll Hotel - Tiverton EX16 7RA
The Hartnoll Hotel has one of Devon’s premier gourmet restaurants, with award-winning chefs in residence. The restaurant is open to non-residents throughout the day and evening, serving everything from light lunches and cream teas to fine dining.

Lympstone Manor - EX8 3NZ
The chef/patron of Lympstone Manor is Michael Caines, MBE, one of Britain’s most celebrated and influential chefs.  The holder of two Michelin stars for 18 years, he has over the past 21 years earned a global reputation for his distinctive modern European cuisine, utilizing the finest local and regional produce and ingredients.

The Holt -  Honiton EX14 1LA
The Holt at Honiton is a pub, restaurant and smokehouse.  They offer a seasonally changing menu using locally sourced ingredients.  Michael Caines, MBE, said of The Holt, “What I love about The Holt is that it provides consistently great quality food and drink, embracing the vast array of ingredients available from Devon’s larder.”

River Cottage HQ - Axminster EX13 5AN
Against the backdrop of stunning Devon countryside, you’ll be able to relax and soak up the atmosphere and enjoy delicious food fresh from the River Cottage kitchen.  They run dining events at River Cottage HQ throughout the year in their seventeeth century barn, or their farmhouse.  They also hold special events throughout the year. Dinners are available at HQ from Friday to Sunday as communal dining events for about 60 people.  It’s advisable to book up to 3 months in advance as dinners are very popular.  You start with a tractor ride down to the farm, canapés and drinks in the yurt and then a set menu dinner.  As long as you mention it in advance, they are able to cater to different dietary requirements.

The Jack in the Green - Exeter EX5 2EE
The Jack in the Green,  was short listed for the European Luxury Travel Guide Awards 2017.  Gidleigh-trained chef Matthew Mason concentrates on “just doing simple things right”. His extensive menus have something for everyone: there’s artfully presented traditional pub grub, vegetarian dishes, a large children’s menu, and a bargain, three-course Totally Devon menu.

Somerset Dining Room - Lower Henlade TA3 5NB

Brazz - Taunton TA1 1NF
An eclectic and chic restaurant. Brazz Taunton in the Castle Hotel has a history of recruiting the very finest English chefs, giving them free reign to bring their own innovative touches to the kitchen, such as Gary Rhodes. As a result, the Brazz Taunton menu is a showcase of the finest English recipes, made with locally sourced produce. Fish and seafood like haddock from Brixham sit alongside premium game from the nearby Exmoor and the Quantock Hills. The fresh fruit, vegetables and herbs come from a small supplier 5 miles away.

River Exe Café - Exeter EX8 1XA
The River Exe café was awarded the Diner’s Choice Award 2017.  Known as the gastro shed, is a unique venue offering a wonderful dining experience with a difference. The custom built floating restaurant and café serves locally sourced produce and has a licensed bar. With indoor and outdoor seating the restaurant is available in all weather and, if you don’t have your own boat, a regular water taxi service takes guests to and from the restaurant.
